Hello everyone! It doesn't seem that long ago when I flew home from playing tennis in Palm Desert, CA, and Paul picked me up and said, "Congratulations, you are now the President of the Ski Club." I remembered being asked to run but I didn't commit, so it came as a surprise to me, to say the least. Anyhow, I survived, and it was kinda fun.
This past election, I was there because it was held at my house. Before everyone voted, we were asked to speak on why we wanted to be president. Craig said he wanted us all to become snowboarders (jokingly), and Geof said something like 'the club is now in good shape and he would like to continue it that way'. Geof's short speech clinched it for me, I decided at that moment to concede, here's a guy that wants to do the job, hallelujah! I do believe Geof will be very good for the club and I'm asking all of you to give him full support as you have given me.
I had the privilege working with all the board members, we got to know one another and got along well. We started meeting once a month, had the general meeting every first Thursday of the month and by doing so, we got some former members back. We had a flurry of activities that were well attended, thanks to Wandi, who always came up with something new and interesting. Darrell, Michael, and Dick are in the process of making a brochure that shows the clubs various activities besides skiing and snowboarding, and community involvement. Can't wait for it to get finished! Wanda kept the books balanced as usual, and Craig, bless his heart, scribbled furiously during both board and general meetings. Dick as editor when Paul gave it up, has done a superb job, Geof updated the roster, and Honey is wonderful with the hotline. If I keep rambling on, this will become a novel and take up all the space, heh, heh. Awesome job gang, I'm so proud of you!
Before I take off to the wild blue yonder, more so to the tennis court, don't forget to attend the May meeting which will be held at the Elks Club in Waikiki. We will be choosing the location of SkiWeek'06, and when it's happening. Choices are Vail, Mammoth, and Jackson Hole, and timeframe are either last week of January or February, so be there if it matters to you. 'Nuff said, I bid you Aloha Oe and mahalo to all......................fergie
The Ski exercise equipment donated to the club was auctioned off by Geof: Renee was the highest bidder at $150.
HIKE REVISITED
The Old Pali Road hike April 17th proved the value of a Sierra Club outing. A dozen ski club members and friends joined a good-sized contingent from Sierra Club. The hike took us under the Pali Highway to a flower bedecked waterfall. For awhile we were on an old stone carriage road that must be historic. The hikers moved on to Kailua Beach to relax and eat through the sunset. The day was so perfect Bill Rothe even got away with parking his Cobra at the Pali Lookout and it didn't get wet! Thanks, Anita, for providing the food.

Join us for some jumpin' jazz at Studio 6. Every
Tuesday, starting at 8 p.m., a variety of musicians
play jazz at the Musicians' Union Bldg., 949 Kapiolani
Blvd. Parking and entry are from Waimanu St. at the
back. Take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Cost is
just $7 for a couple hours of great music. BYOB and

PAU HANA: Nick's Fishmarket, Friday, May 13 @ 5:30
p.m. Nicks Fishmarket is located in the Waikiki
Gateway Hotel at 2070 Kalakaua Avenue (955-6333). The
valet parking is free with validation.
Beach Party at Malaekahana: May 14th, Saturday 11:00 am to whenever. All ski club members/friends are invited to Malaekahana for a beach party. We will be celebrating the retirement of our ski club members Lee Cataldi, Roger Angel, Larry Reich and anyone else who may be retiring this year. Roger and I have a 3 bedroom beach house this weekend. The large room upstairs has 4-5 beds and the living room has 2 beds. Sorry no tents allowed. If anyone is interested in spending Saturday night let Kathy know. We have a barbeque for grilling. Bring food to share, drinks, beach chairs, sunscreen, etc and a fun loving spirit. There is shade for those of you who would like to get out of the sun. We will play a few outdoor games so get those competitive juices flowing. Food will be going all day but the main meal will be at 3ish Please bring coolers for drinks and other items that need to stay cool. Directions from Honolulu Head towards Kaneohe, to Kahaluu, to Kaaawa, to Punaluu, to Polynesian Cultural Center. When you get to the Chevron Station at the Polynesian CC go about 2 miles and watch for POLE 40 on the right. The Telephone poles go down in number. We are at the end of a long stretch of road that starts just past "Crakle Fresh Eggs Farm" . Watch for a large water tank on the left side, past the "Gunstock Ranch " sign. Our driveway is directly across street from that water tank. TURN JUST BEFORE POLE 40 and veer to your left at the bottom of the driveway. You are there.....its easier than it sounds. MANOA HISTORIC HOMES TOUR/ LUNCH AT WAIOLI TEA ROOM: Sunday, May 29th @ 9:15am & 9:30am. We will view over 60 historic homes along the 1.5-mile walking route and will be allowed to enter 7 of these homes. Because we will be asked to take off our shoes when entering the homes, please wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip off. The 2-hour tour will end at College Hill, the residence of University of Hawaii President and Mrs. David McClain. Because of an engagement that they will have to host later in the evening, it was necessary to move our tour to an earlier time. We will also need to divide our group into 2 groups due to the popular response to this activity. Please arrive at Kamanele Park (University and Kaala) around 8:45am to pick up your tour map and information packet. Parking is available at Mid-Pacific Institute or on-street. We will decide then who will be going on the 9:15am and the 9:30am tours. A registration form will be mailed to those members who have signed up for the walking tour. For those who have already been given this registration form, please mail it in with your $25 fee as soon as possible. After May 20 the fee will be $30. Please be aware that there will be no refunds and that these tours will take place rain or shine. No photos will be allowed in the homes. After the two-hour walking tour, we will go to the Waioli Tea Room (2950 Manoa Road) for lunch/high tea. Members will have a choice of standard lunch fare (soup, sandwiches, salad, entrees) or high tea (scones, tea sandwiches, finger pastries). If you prefer high tea ($18.75), because of the preparation involved, it must be preordered. Please let Wandi know if you wish to order high tea.
KUALOA CAMPING IN DINOSAUR VALLEY: Sat June 4th to Sunday June 5th!
Don't miss this unique opportunity to spend the night in the pristine and serene Kaaawa Valley. Privately owned by Kualoa Ranch and not advertised to the public, they offer private groups the opportunity to camp in the valley. This location radiates with beauty and is the location for many movie sets, e.g., Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Lost. Only two campsites to choose from and we selected the one deep in the valley on the hillside. Picnic tables with overhang, FIRE PIT, sink and counter with running water from a water catchment system, shower (cold. sorry) and portapotty! Beach access only a short walk to the road. Fairly unrestricted with use of the site. Combination locked gate for our entry at our leisure which allows us to drive our vehicles to the site and park (of course will suggest car pooling). Can bring mountain bikes for cruising deep into the valley or can walk to explore the footprints of Godzilla! Can also pre-arrange a 1-2 hour walking tour of the valley if we prefer but an additional charge of $ 4.50 pp.
Camping Cost: $ 7.50 pp plus a $ 25 Portapotty fee which we can split between the group. Minimum 15 people for site. Contact Amy Bosich

application at the May ski club meeting, but those who
sign up early get first choice in time and location.
If you apply online, check off Shift 4 (Sunday
10:30-3:30) and under Company/Group Name, list "Ski
Association of Hawaii." Also under "comments" state
"NO SECURITY. Assign with other Ski Club members."
This will be the 8th year that members of the Ski
Association have volunteered. Volunteers get a free
t-shirt, admission ticket, and $10.00 scrip for food
or beverages.
We have traditionally volunteered Sunday morning from 10:30AM - 3:30PM (that's a short shift), although you can register for another day and time. Members informally gather after this shift to eat, socialize, and enjoy the entertainment. Support Easter Seals of Hawaii, which receives the proceeds from this event. If you cannot work at this event, then join us near the sculpture in the center lawn about 3PM to eat and meet other ski club members. Friends and family are welcome to join us for the pau hana activities.
