CALENDAR OF EVENTS:
Every Monday evening (except on holidays and, of course, during Hawaii Ski Week), at 4:30 PM, a group of ski club members and their friends play tennis at Keehi Lagoon Courts, off Lagoon Drive. Stay in shape and enjoy a "careful social hour" afterwards.
June 2 (Thursday), 5:30 PM, General Membership Meeting at Mangiamo by 604. Please try to get there at 5:00 PM or shortly thereafter so you can get "situated" before we begin our business at 5:30 and conclude before the music begins at 6:00 PM.
July 7 (Thursday), 5: PM, General Membership Meeting/cookout fare provided by the Club at Rainbow Bay Marina, Pearl Harbor (See below for details)
First, let me express my disappointment and embarrassment that some of you showed up on Friday, May 20, to a closed Pau Hana venue. Geof had been to Lisa's House recently, had found it to be a going operation, and based on our experience there just before the pandemic, thought it would be a fun place for a "return engagement." Personally, I was disappointed that I wouldn't be making it due to another engagement: I was exiting my car at the other engagement when my phone started ringing. Geof and Mitch found their way to the nearby Underdogs on Waikaimilo Road, and I hope some more of you got over there through the coconut wireless. Unfortunately, there was no way to get a last minute mass message out. At the time of this writing, we do not have Pau Hanas planned for June or July but are thinking about it and will let you know by email if we do: Stay tuned. As of this writing, the intial allotment of rooms we had at Big Sky is sold out, we were able to secure 8 more at the original price, and they are going fast. We may be able to secure more at what we expect to be an increased price. I'm sure a large number of you will be happy to hear that Japan is hoping to announce a re-opening of tourism in June, and Alan reports that efforts to put together a trip to Rusutsu and/or other areas will resume when this occurs. Perhaps he will have more information to share at our upcoming Meeting at Mangiamo on June 2----which is next week already. In all my years with the Club, I have never seen such an early demand for the subequent year- - - - and some ski areas are still open. I saw a Facebook post on Friday from an old friend at Bachelor in Oregon: She and her friends were still skiing in their winter clothes instead of the shorts and tee shirts often associated with spring skiing. Hope to see you at Mangiamo next week.
UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:
MANGIAMO BY 604
NAVY MARINE GOLF COURSE
943 VALKENBURGH ST.
June 2 (Thursday) 5 PM
We're back to Mangiamo next Thursday for our June General Membership Meeting and, although the meeting, itself, won't begin until 5:30 PM, we'd like you to get there a bit earlier so you can get situated and order your food and drink. If you haven't yet been to Mangiamo, it is opposite the airport, off of Valkenburgh Street which runs between Nimitz Highway (under the viaduct) and Radford Drive. It is on the second floor of the golf course's club house. See you there.
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING/COOKOUT
RAINBOW BAY MARINA
57 Arizona Memorial Drive
(next to Restaurant 604)
July 7 (Thursday) 5:00 PM
Come to our July General
Membership Meeting for July, where the food will be "on the house,"
at Rainbow Bay Marina, Pearl Harbor, Cabana A. Not having had
the usual meetings during the "pandemic years" at which we would
normally provide the food, we are doing it here to make up for lost time and
to spend some of the resultant excess in our General Account. Rainbow Bay
Marina is the outdoor picnic area with cabanas on the right hand side
(facing towards the ocean) of Restaurant 604. We have held
our October Kick-Off Meetings and, at least, a couple of Pre-Trip Packet Pickup
Parties here in the past. For those of you who unfamiliar with the
area, enter Pearl Harbor off Kamehameha Highway as if you were going to the
Arizona Memorial, take a right on the inner road (Arizona Memorial Place),
and drive approximately 1/4 mile. As soon as you go under the Ford
Island viaduct, you are there. This
is BYOB, and please carry out your drink containers rather than
deposit of them in the refuse receptacles at the venue or we will forfeit
the return of a
$100.00 deposit we gave them for cleanup.

HAWAII SKI WEEK 2023
Hawaii Ski Week is scheduled for January 14-21, 2023, the week including the
MLK holiday. The club will stay at the Huntley Lodge where our club has
stayed twice previously, is less than a 5-minute walk to the slopes, and is
in the heart of the Village Center where many restaurants, ski shops, and
grocery stores are located. Seven nights lodging including full breakfast is
estimated to be $2,829 per person double occupancy at the Huntley Lodge
Village View rooms and $2,426 per person quad occupancy for the Big Horn
condos for 7 nights lodging, Welcome Reception, roundtrip airfare, roundtrip
airport shuttle, 5-days senior lift tickets and Farewell Dinner. These
prices may vary depending on the actual prices of the items mentioned above.
The reservation form is in the Trips Section of this website.
