PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
Normally, this newsletter is published following our board meeting where
we have discussed, among other items, our upcoming calendar of events.
We,
however, are holding this month's board meeting, the Annual Board Dinner,
this coming Thursday, one week late, so watch your emails for a May Pau Hana or
other events which may be added.
For those of you who were not at last month's General Membership Meeting and/or have been under a snowbank somewhere (heh heh!!), we are welcoming Mike Tsutsui and Caroline Sluyter to the Board and bidding adieu (sob!) with heartfelt mahalos to Gaye Chun and Rene (Fergie) Ferguson. Fergie, however, has agreed to continue handling our tee shirts for one more year. We still give a free tee shirt to each new membership (one per family), and the shirts are normally available for purchase at general membership meetings and other events. If you want another shirt for yourself or as a gift for a friend, don't hesitate to contact Fergie directly, fergie@hawaiisnowskiclub.com to arrange a way for you to obtain it.
I'm looking forward to next week's General Membership Meeting at the Honolulu Club. If it works out in terms of seating, acoustics, and attendance, we may consider it as our future home for General Membership Meetings. Also, there is a rumor that the restaurant on the second floor of the Navy Marine Golf Course clubhouse, which was our home for several years under several different restaurant management companies and which everyone seemed to like, may be reopening yet again, and if so, that will be another option. As I've asked a number of times, if YOU know of a conveniently located restaurant-bar with free parking which could host us every month, let me know.
See you at the meetings and activities.
A hui hou kakou,
TOBY
UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
HONOLULU CLUB
932 Ward Ave, 7th Floor
May 3 (Thursday) 5:00 P.M.
Although the food, cost, and location of Ruby Tuesday-Moanalua is fine for many of us, it is sometimes a bit noisy for a meeting so, on May 3, Alan Teramura has invited us to his "hang," the Honolulu Club. We were at the Honolulu Club last September for a very well attended meeting and exercise session. If it works out, maybe we can do it again (and again).
Park anywhere after you have entered the structure off Ward Avenue, take the elevator to the 7th floor, turn left when you exit the elevator, proceed to the reception desk, identify yourself as a Hawaii Ski Club member, and have your parking ticket validated. Walk towards the bar and you should see us. The meeting, itself, won't begin until after 5:30.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY
For The
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
SUMMER GAMES
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII - MANOA
May 26 (Saturday) 7:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
Ski Club members will volunteer to help at the Special Olympics Summer Games at UH Manoa lower campus on Saturday, May 26. The yearly event relies heavily on volunteers and was an annual volunteer activity for the ski club until last year when we did not apply in time to participate. This year, as in 2016, we will escort and assist athletes through their Healthy Athlete screenings on the UH campus. This is your chance to interact one-on-one with special needs athletes. Ski club members who have volunteered previously for this event have informed me that they were grateful to have had this opportunity. Please contact Anita Hodges. anita@hawaiisnowskiclub.com , if you are interested. Free Special Olympics volunteer t-shirt provided.

PAST SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:
MARCH PAU HANA
HARBOR RESTAURANT AT PIER 38
1129 N. Nimitz Highway
March 30 (Friday) 4:00
P.M.
Harbor Restaurant was just "as advertised," slightly on the higher end of the scale than it's downstairs neighbor, Nico's, but not really too expensive: I got out of the there for not much more than I usually pay at a Pau Hana (of course, I was treated to my first beer by a fellow member). The beer selection was great, and the Pupus were delicious. We had seventeen members and guests show up for the occasion and a good number of us stayed later than usual, a testimony to the fare as well as the camaraderie. Mahalo to whomever it was on the Board that suggested this venue.

LANAKILA MEALS ON WHEELS
Thank you to all who
volunteered April 7 at Lanakila Meals-on-Wheels(LMOW). Roy, Sam, Linda, Jane,
Carl, Bill, Jackie, Judy, and Albert, most long-time volunteers at LMOW, were
joined by first-timers Dan, Mitch, Jonathan, and Jeff L to assemble meals for
the elderly and disabled in our community. Our “assembly line” functioned so
well that in just 2 hours, we put together a week’s worth of meals for hundreds
of home-bound people. Afterwards, many volunteers enjoyed a tasty, Mexican lunch
at Mexico Restaurant. Join us next time.
