PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

It looks like this year’s ski season is coming to an end soon.  My brother and family are spending spring break in Mammoth, and I am stuck here due to an extremely heavy workload and supervising the remodeling of my home.  It sucks!!

I still plan to make one last trip before all the snow melts away.

I am sorry the Super Ferry trip had to be cancelled, but we will try to schedule it again in May or June.  As I said, take advantage if it runs again for it will probably not be around for long.

Much MAHALO’s to the departing Board members for all the time and effort spent to make the club an enjoyable experience for the membership.  I know the incoming Board members have big shoes to fill but will be up to the task.  From what I can remember in the 10 year I’ve been with the club, next year’s trip to Japan will be the first Ski Week in a foreign country and a daunting task for the new trip committee.  From the overwhelming response, it should be well attended.

Hopefully this summer will be better surf wise than last summer, and I hope to see you all from time to time at the club events.

Aloha,

Geof

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:

GENERAL MEETING AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS

PAU HANA AT PINKY'S PUPU BAR AND GRILL
April 11 (Friday) 5:30 P.M.

Come to the quieter side of the Island, laid back Kailua, for drinks and pupus At Pinky's Pupu Bar and Grill.  Pinky's is located at 970 Kalaheo Avenue, on the Canal, directly across Mokapu Blvd. from Aikahi Park Shopping Center.  It's a normally a pretty quick ride, faster than you'd think, to Pinky's via the H3, Likelike, or the Pali.

KAILUA BEACH WALK AND BBQ / POTLUCK
April 26 (Saturday) 1 P.M.

Meet at 1 pm at Malia and Todd’s place at 156 F North Kalaheo, Kailua. This is a pot luck event. Also bring your own beverages, sun tan lotion, swim suit, and towel. We will walk Kailua beach to the north then back to Todd's house for the BBQ.

Directions:

Take Pali Highway through Kailua Town,  turn left at the red light on Kalaheo Ave. after passing St Anthony's Church,  look for a white wall with the number 156 [ocean side], turn right into narrow lane. drive to end of the lane.  Everyone try to car-pool as parking is limited.   Parking also possible on Ulupa St.

AWAII SUPERFERRY TRIP TO MAUI
May 10 - 11 (Saturday-Sunday)

This trip will "launch" provided the  the Superferry is truly out of drydock by that time so please, do NOT make reservations until the company gives notice that they are operational.  Join fellow members for a day or weekend via the Hawaii Superferry.  For those who want to stay overnight on Saturday, OCI (Geof's employer) has offered the use of two - 2BD/1.5 BA condominiums in the Harbor Lights complex in Kahalui.  Superferry's website, www.Hawaiisuperferry.com , is currently offering an extended introductory fare of $39 each way for passengers and $55 each way for passenger vehicles for travel through June 5, if booked by March 31.  They are also alleging that during this promotional period, all fuel surcharges are being waived, but eventually will be 35.3%. At this time we are recommending that folks think twice about bringing their personal vehicles for only an overnight. Sharing the cost of a rental car or van would be much more cost effective. Please visit the ferry's website for other information such as what is allowed on board. The ferry currently departs Honolulu Harbor every morning @ 6:30 AM and departs Kahalui Harbor every morning back to Honolulu @ 11: 15. AM.  The trip is 3 3/4 hours.   If you are interested in an overnight stay, this is considered "adult camping", so please provide your own sleeping bag/floor pad & blanket, etc. Each condo can accommodate 5-6 people.  If you wish to stay on Maui a bit longer on Sunday, we are suggesting that you fly back to Honolulu rather than taking the Ferry. At this time, fares for Hawaiian Airlines are $49 - $54 and approximately $49 for Aloha.   Suggested activities while on Maui are: golf, visiting the Maui Ocean Center aquarium at Maalaea Harbor, and visiting the Ali'i Lavender Farm in Kula. Other suggestions welcome--contact Linda Giers ( lgiers@aol.com )
