PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
We’re all back from a very successful Ski Week 2008 @ Whistler. No one got injured except for a lot of sore
muscles. Even the weather cooperated and
proved many naysayers wrong. It did not
rain once!! It snowed four out of the
six days I was on the mountain. After my
Tahoe trip and Whistler, I’ve never experienced this much snow. I am still learning how to deal with it under
my board. AWESOME!!
The movement to get the
club to
Although we all want to
get into the snow again before it melts away, the Board has scheduled a few
events that the club has not done yet.
Included is a ride on the

and a president whose terms are up in April 2008 and the club needs a few of
you members to “step up to the plate” and help out.
Aloha, geof
PAST EVENTS:
What
do you do when NASTAR isn't available at Whistler for the annual Ski Week
race? You devise your own categories for
the timed race! (For those, like me,
who thought NA in NASTAR stood for North American, ...it doesn't. It's for NAtional.)
Winners in the Elite Category of previous medal winners are:
Steve Spielman and Jackie Loui!
Winners of the Veteran Racers without previous medals
are: Jonathan Carr and Cathy Lau! (Wanda)
Winners among the First Time Ever Racers are: Loui Paresa and Anita Hodges!
David Imata has the best time for Snowboard Racers!
Congratulations all, and to all those who entered the race.
Comments about Whistler Ski Week
Randy Wakaki: I think
Whistler has TWO GREAT mountains and a fun village to find good dining and nice
entertainment for everyone. It's a destination
that I would go back to over and over.
Craig Shafer: I don't know
which Ski Club ski trip is my favorite or best trip. But I do know that
Whistler was the worst ski club ski trip for me. [Food poisoning, sick for 3
days]
Todd Withy: Whistler was a
great trip, starting with the bald eagle side trip and there they were, right
in front of us, to all the great lunches on the mountains with the snow
falling. Great hot tub also, or maybe I
just needed it more than most!
Wonderful Ski trip.
Linda Giers: The scenery
to and from Whistler along Howe Sound was breathtaking. It was a special treat
to be able to stop and see the bald eagles at Squamish.
Lee Cataldi: WHISTLER 1993 in 2 sentences or less:
SENTENCE #1:
Instant pau hana: The open-air apres-ski pubs were right there at the bottom of
the slopes, making it so easy to do Hawaiian style hook-up.
SENTENCE #2:
Kathy Ritter: Even though I didn't ski, I had a wonderful time
in the Whistler/Blackcomb village. The dog sledding was a new and interesting
experience.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:
TIO’S
GARAGE AND TACO STAND
The lease and ownership never changed hands, but constant
competition coupled with diners' short attention spans were making it necessary
to keep serving up something new.
Comfy Tio’s offers New Mex cuisine emphasizing
chiles. On the menu will be an assortment of tacos, enchiladas, and
burritos as well as more creative fare such as tortilla soup poured at the
table from a teapot, Serrano pepper and mint shrimp lettuce wraps, green chili
stew, chipotle chicken wings and goat cheese nachos.
Speaking of happy, Tio's offers a whole roster of margaritas
made with such uniquely Southwestern imports as sweet agave nectar and prickly
pear cactus. There's an "acai" margarita as well. Served in mugs with
straws and without salt, they're like slushes that pack an adult kick.
Happy hour is from
See you there! Geof

New blood on
the ski board means new ideas and different activities! IF EVERYONE VOLUNTEERED
ONCE TO BE A BOARD MEMBER, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES. Don’t expect the same people to shoulder the
load every year
The ski board needs people with varied interests and talents:
a president, secretary, treasurer, and 4 board members who will work on
committees such as planning local activities and major ski trips.
If you wish to volunteer or if you know
someone who would contribute to the club, please contact any current board member,
email Anita at Contacts, or
attend the March general meeting. (Anita)
