PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
At last check the Whistler Blackcomb Resort has almost 8’ of base. The long range weather forecast calls for more snow when we arrive and lasting thru mid week.
POWDER!! POWDER!! POWDER!!
It’s shaping up to be an outstanding Ski Week 2008, and I can hardly wait. This year we have almost 50 members attending, and although the resort is huge, I hope to see everyone at the events the Trip Committee has planned.
The venue for Ski Week 2009 will be picked the same way as the four previous years. The top three nominations at the Ski Week 2008 Pizza Party in Whistler will be voted on at the Post Ski Party on Saturday, February 16, 2008 @ the Esplanade. The membership may vote by e-mail any time prior to the aforementioned event.
The Rainbows did not win the Sugar Bowl as I predicted but being snowed in while in North Tahoe was a pleasant surprise and eased the pain somewhat. The mountain passes were closed and that meant no one could come up for the weekend while we were there.
The club is planning a trip to Maui on the Superferry the last weekend of March. Any suggestions of activities that may be of interest while on Maui are welcome.
Aloha,
geof
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:
WHISTLER APRE VOYAGE PARTY
February 16 (Saturday) 5 PM
The Apre (post) Ski Party, as in the recent past, will be held from 5 PM - 9 PM at Sylvia (Sam) Wright's condo, The Esplanade, in beautiful, uptown Hawaii Kai. To get to the Esplanade, drive down Kalanianaole Highway to Lunalilo Home Road in Hawaii Kai, take a left on Lunalilio Home Road and watch out for the Esplanade which is on the left, across from Kaiser High School. It is the most prominent building on the near horizon. There are only 12 guest parking spots at the building but plenty of on-street parking is normally available. The Party will be held at either the second floor pool area or in a first floor function room depending upon the weather. Bring a dish to share, your own beverages to drink, and tennis racket or swim suits, if/as you wish for the court, pool, and hot tub.

TIO’S GARAGE AND TACO STAND
March 14, 2008 4:30 PM – PAU HANA
404 Ward Avenue (Old Dixie Grill location)
The lease and ownership never changed hands, but constant competition coupled with diners' short attention spans were making it necessary to keep serving up something new.
Comfy Tio’s offers New Mex cuisine emphasizing chiles. On the menu will be an assortment of tacos, enchiladas, and burritos as well as more creative fare such as tortilla soup poured at the table from a teapot, Serrano pepper and mint shrimp lettuce wraps, green chili stew, chipotle chicken wings and goat cheese nachos.
Speaking of happy, Tio's offers a whole roster of margaritas made with such uniquely Southwestern imports as sweet agave nectar and prickly pear cactus. There's an "acai" margarita as well. Served in mugs with straws and without salt, they're like slushes that pack an adult kick. Happy hour is from 3:00 to 6:00 PM and after 9:00 PM till closing.
See you there!

TRIP TO MAUI ON THE HAWAII SUPERFERRY
March 29-30, 2008
Join fellow members for a day or weekend on the Hawaii Superferry. For those who want to stay over night on Saturday, OCI has offered the use of two - 2BD/1.5BA condominiums in the Harbor Lights complex in Kahalui. Currently the Ferry departs Honolulu Harbor every morning @ 6:30 AM and departs Kahalui Harbor every morning back to Honolulu @ 11:15 AM. The introductory fare of $39.00 is good for travel thru June 5, 2008 and must be booked by March 31, 2008. Airfares have already gone up after the beginning of 2008.
This trip is still in its planning stage and more details will be provided.

KAILUA BEACH WALK AND PICNIC (OR HAPPY HOUR)
April 26 (Saturday) 11:30 A.M.
Meet at Buzz's Steak House, across the street from Kailua Beach Park, at 11:30 a.m. where we will be shuttled to the end of the beach for a scenic walk (see the "Mokes," watch the hang-gliders play in the currents off the ridge, watch the sailboards brave the waves, etc.) After the walk we will either picnic on the beach across from Buzz's, have drinks and Pupu at Buzz's or, maybe, both. Details to be decided.
