PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Well, we are back to Ruby Tuesday for our June 7 General Membership Meeting.   We owe Alan a hearty mahalo for hosting our meeting last month at the Honolulu Club.  For those of you who did not make it, the food was definitely at a somewhat higher level than that to which we have become accustomed at our meetings and prices were good, but there was a short window of time for announcements before the band started up, and a few of our regulars voiced a preference for a non town location.  Personally, I wouldn't be averse to trying the Honolulu Club again----If we can get a private room, but no matter where we meet, traffic will be a problem for some.

We also owe Alan, together with his Trip Committee, a big vote of thanks for the work to date on our 2019 trip to Whistler-Blackcomb.  In case you did not get the email (and please let me know if you didn't) with the announcement and registration form, the announcement is also in this Newsletter, and a downloadable/printable registration form can be found in the Trips section of our website, www.hawaiisnowskiclub.com .  If you can't easily download and print the registration form (it will download as a photo and appear in your photos file), get in touch with Alan, alan@hawaiisnowskiclub.com , and he can send you one.  Although the date for your initial deposit is August 1, you don't need to wait to send it in in.  I am sure that early deposits will be gratefully received.

Hope to see some of you at Ruby Tuesday next week.

A hui hou kakou,

TOBY

UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
RUBY TUESDAY
Moanalua Shopping Center
930 Valkenburgh St.
June 7 (Thursday) 5:00 P.M.

We are back to Ruby Tuesday-Moanalua for our June General Membership Meeting, and Alan will be back from his European adventures to provide whatever information he might have on our 2019 ski trip to Whistler-Blackcomb that was not provided in the announcements.  For those who have not been to this location, the restaurant is located at the Ewa end of the Moanalua Shopping Center, across Valkenburgh St. from the Navy-Marine Golf Course.  We will be in the covered lanai at the Ewa end of the restaurant.  While the actual meeting will probably not start until sometime between 5:30 and 6:00, come at 5:00 to start with the grinds and the stories.

PAST SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

MAY PAU HANA
DIXIE GRILL
May 18 (Friday)

Most probably due to the late announcement, the concomitant off-island travels of some of our "Pau Hana Regulars, and the location (spelled "T-R-A-F-F-I-C"), we had a very small turnout at Dixie Grill on Friday, May 18.   The prices were reasonable,  it was a bit noisy, and the fare was, for the most part,  definitely not health food,  but the service was fast and guess what?  Free popcorn.  I'd go back again, but definitely not from Honolulu at Pau Hana time, and I'd definitely not go on Kamehameha Highway:  I'd take Nalopaka Pl.. from Moanalua Rd. which goes right into the back parking lot.  Live and learn.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY
For The
SPECIAL OLYMPICS SUMMER GAMES
UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII - MANOA
May 26  (Saturday) 7:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

Ten Ski Club Members and "associates" were scheduled to work at the Special Olympics this year, and eight had come to the registration desk by the time we left for our assignments at the Healthy Athletes area.  By the time four of us were pulled aside and given our "marching orders" in the room where vision tests were conducted and the athletes (apparently after or before their scheduled competitions) were given instruction in various techniques of healthy living, the other four had disappeared to assignments probably in the same general area but not with us.  Basically, we performed registration type activities and escorted the athletes among various stations where they were served:  The same types of duties I remember performing two years ago and very worthwhile.   It will be interesting to find out whether all ten of us made it and where the "others" ended up.
