PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

This year's Board election is now history, and, as you see from the masthead,  I am back as your President and am doubling, yet again, as Newsletter Editor.  We welcome new Board Members Gaye Chun (formerly Dickey) and Anita Hodges, a former V.P. of the Club who, although she took a brief respite from the Board, never ceased giving us wise counsel.  We bid a fond Aloha to Scott Parmley and Roy Manzoku who, over the last several years, has put our Community Service program in high gear.  Roy will be a tough act to follow but, I am sure that Anita and Bill, who have agreed to don the Community Service mantle, will give it their all.   Alan Teramura,  and Jonathan Carr are back for another two year term and Geoff Chu, Paul and Rene (Fergie) Ferguson, Bill Hodges, and Linda Giers are beginning the second year of their two year terms.  At our annual Board Dinner/Meeting on April 19, all returning Officers agreed to remain in last year's positions, Jonathan as Vice President, Geoff as Treasurer, and Paul as Secretary, and Fergie agreed to remain as our tee shirt "honcho" (why reinvent the wheel?).  As you already know, Gaye has taken the reins of the Trip Committee from V.P. Jonathan and hit the ground running.

I know I speak for all of the Board when I say that we are all volunteers, some of us still have jobs, and those of us who are retired still have other obligations, so please bear with us if we don't immediately answer your emails or deposit your membership checks on as timely a basis as both you and we would like (but I bet we deposit them more quickly than the Hawaii Department of Taxation deposits your tax payments).  Also, we can't think of everything, and we do welcome your input and suggestions.  Please don't hesitate to contact me ( pres@hawaiisnowskiclub.com ) if you have a suggestion for a particular activity or how we might enhance our operation.

As you can see, we are a little "light" on activities for the coming month:  It was hard to conduct a lot of business at the Board Dinner with the waiters ready to get going and the wine being poured.   Watch your email for any activities that might be plugged into the calendar during the next few weeks, and, as I said above,  if you have suggestions for activities that would be of interest to members, let me know.   Also, we are especially interested in free venues (like condo recreation areas) in easily accessible locations that we might use for gatherings from time to time.

Hope to see many of you at Ruby Tuesday on May 4.

A hui hou kakou,

TOBY

UPCOMING SKI CLUB ACTIVITIES:

APRIL PAU HANA
NICO'S PIER 38
1129 N. Nimitz Highway
April 28 (Friday) 4:00 P.M.

According to my Gmail key word search, we haven't been to Nico's for a Pau Hana since our packet pickup for the Hakuba, Japan trip in January, 2013. This favorite of Honolulu's Pau Hana crowd for beverages and seafood is located off Nimitz Highway in the ocean direction just town side of the intersection with Waiakamilo Rd.  The entrance has a number of signs, including one for Nico's, displaying the restaurants and other business concerns at Pier 38 area and is opposite (on the other side of Nimitz Highway) the strip mall containing New Eagle Cafe.  Pull into the entrance, find parking on the left as close to the buildings as you can get,  walk down towards the water, and look for the rest of us either in the small area outside or inside the restaurant.  I know a lot you don't come until around 5:00 P.M. but would appreciate some early arrivals at 4:00 so we have a better chance of grabbing a table and not have to wait in line at this popular hangout.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
RUBY TUESDAY
Moanalua Shopping Center
930 Valkenburgh St.
May 4 (Thursday) 5:00 P.M.

Come to Ruby Tuesday-Moanalua for our May General Membership Meeting. The restaurant is located at the Ewa end of the Moanalua Shopping Center, directly across Valkenburgh St. from the Navy Marine Golf course where we previously held out meetings.  We will be in the covered lanai at the Ewa end of the restaurant.  While the actual meeting will probably not start until sometime between 5:30 and 6:00, come at 5:00 to start with the grinds and the stories.
