CALENDAR OF EVENTS:
Nothing scheduled due to COVID-19 restrictions on activity.
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:
I'll begin this issue's President's Message by welcoming Terry and Elvira Lo, Joy Shiinoki, and Peggy Yee to the fold and welcoming back Margaret Murchie. As of last Thursday, sixty-five of last year's one hundred thirty-eight members, i.e. less than half, have renewed for the current membership year. Due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, including many making the decision not to ski this upcoming season, I can well understand this and, as indicated in last week's email to you all, we have decided to extend current renewals to 2 years: Renew now for the 2021 season, and your membership will extend to September 30, 2022. Although we haven't been able to offer our usual "diet" of off-season activities including, but not limited to, Pau Hanas, parties, volunteer activities, and hikes, we did manage, when a temporary relaxation of state rules permitted, one hike and one volunteer activity, neither of which provided the social distancing we had expected. I know a number of you faithful Thanksgiving volunteers will be missing the volunteer activity on Thanksgiving morning as well as our always well-attended Christmas Party and the Pre-Trip Party, but we ARE, thankfully, at this writing, carrying on with the trip to Aspen on January 22. Although some of the usual socializing will be restricted, it will certainly be great to get back on the snow. Although October 15, just passed, was the deadline for our commitment to available condos for the trip, as indicated in our email to you all last week, don't hesitate to contact Alan, alan@hawaiisnowskiclub.com , if you wish to join the trip in order to determine if there have been dropouts whose slots you might be able to fill. When you next see or communicate with Alan, please give him a MAJOR MAHALO for the nerve wracking "deck shuffling" he has had to do with regard to Hawaii Ski Week this year, and if you're not going on Ski Week but are planning your own later trips, make sure you fully understand all the temporary measures your destination has put in place for this coming season. Some ski areas are capping daily attendance when the parking lot is full, many are closing their ticket windows and only allowing online ticket sales, some are only taking daily reservations which are closed when they have reached a specific number, one I know of is eliminating single lines on all lifts so they can laterally space skiers in line, and it goes on and on. But the snow will be there, and that is why we go.
A hui hou kakou,

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
SALVATION ARMY THANKSGIVING DINNER CANCELLED
Our annual volunteer event, the Salvation Army Thanksgiving meal at Neal
Blaisdell Center, has been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID restrictions
regarding large, indoor groups. However, the Salvation Army will make sure that
those who usually attend the event will have bags of food and pre-packaged meals
which will be distributed by church groups.
Regrettably, most of our HSC
volunteer activities must be cancelled for the remainder of the pandemic. We
hope that you will find other, individual ways to help our community's kapuna
and children.
